Lancashire Telegraph Discovers One of Manchester’s Most Unique Italian Restaurants
Press & Reviews
The Lancashire Telegraph has visited Sicilian NQ and discovered one of Manchester’s most distinctive Italian restaurants — celebrating our authentic Sicilian flavours, mostly vegan and vegetarian menu, and commitment to ethical hospitality.
We are delighted to share a new feature from the Lancashire Telegraph, which visited Sicilian NQ in Manchester’s Northern Quarter and discovered an Italian restaurant with a distinctly Sicilian identity.
The review explores the flavours, atmosphere and values that make our independent restaurant different: regional Sicilian cooking, generous hospitality, a menu led by vegan and vegetarian dishes, and our ongoing commitment to animal welfare.

A Different Kind of Italian Restaurant in Manchester
Sicilian food has its own history, ingredients and personality. Our menu goes beyond the familiar image of Italian dining to celebrate the dishes and flavours of the island: aubergine, pistachio, ricotta, citrus, rich tomato sauces, cannoli and traditional arancini.
The journalist describes arriving at our intimate Turner Street restaurant before discovering a warm interior, a relaxed atmosphere and a menu that was not quite what she expected. Rather than the usual Italian staples, she found dishes rooted in Sicily and a wide choice for vegan and vegetarian guests.
From Pistachio Arancini to Sicilian Cannoli
The review highlights several Sicilian NQ favourites, including the creamy Arancino Pistachio, our volcanic Mr Mount Etna, Cannelloni alla Siciliana and a trio of traditional cannolicchi for dessert.
These are dishes shaped by the food culture of Sicily: bold but comforting, generous and made to be enjoyed without rushing. Pistachio, ricotta and aubergine are not trends for us; they are ingredients connected to our memories of home.
Ethical Hospitality and Animal Welfare
We are especially grateful that the feature recognises the values behind Sicilian NQ. Since opening in 2020, we have worked to create a restaurant where authentic Sicilian food can sit naturally alongside a mostly plant-based approach and meaningful support for rescued animals.
Our support for an animal sanctuary in Sicily is part of that commitment. We believe hospitality can celebrate culture and pleasure while also making more compassionate choices for animals and the wider community.
A Little Piece of Sicily in the Northern Quarter
We would like to thank the Lancashire Telegraph for visiting Sicilian NQ and sharing our story with its readers. Independent restaurants are built through the people who discover them, return to them and help others understand what makes them special.
Whether you come for pistachio arancini, handmade pasta, a vegan Sicilian dinner or cannoli and cocktails, we look forward to welcoming you to our little piece of Sicily in Manchester.
