Why Sicilian NQ Supports an Animal Sanctuary in Sicily
At Sicilian NQ, food has never been just about eating.
For us, Sicilian cuisine is connected to community, sustainability, hospitality and respect — not only for people, but also for animals and the environment.
That is one of the reasons why Sicilian NQ proudly supports Santuario Sotto la Panca, an Italian sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and protecting animals saved from abandonment and exploitation.
A different approach to Italian dining
Sicilian cuisine is naturally rich in plant-based traditions.
Many traditional dishes from Sicily were originally created using vegetables, legumes, grains, herbs, nuts and seasonal ingredients long before modern food trends existed.
At Sicilian NQ, this cultural heritage inspired us to build a menu that is heavily plant-based, while still remaining authentic, generous and deeply connected to Sicilian identity.
Today, much of our menu includes vegan or vegetarian options, inspired by recipes and flavours from Sicily and Southern Italy.
Our goal has never been to follow trends.
Instead, we believe restaurants can contribute to a more sustainable and conscious food culture without losing warmth, flavour or tradition.
Sustainability and food choices
Food systems have a significant impact on the environment, from emissions and water consumption to land use and waste.
For this reason, more restaurants across the world are exploring lower-impact and more sustainable menus.
At Sicilian NQ, we try to take small but meaningful steps toward a more sustainable approach through:
- a strong plant-based offering;
- seasonal ingredients;
- Sicilian NQ does not serve meat.
- sharing-style dining experiences;
- support for ethical initiatives connected to sustainability and animal welfare.
We believe hospitality can still be vibrant, social and indulgent while also becoming more environmentally conscious.
Supporting rescued animals in Sicily
Our connection with Sicily goes far beyond food Santuario Sotto la Panca is a sanctuary project based in Sicily that provides care and protection for rescued animals, including animals saved from difficult situations and abandonment.
The sanctuary also promotes:
- animal welfare;
- environmental awareness;
- ethical sustainability;
- education and social awareness.
Supporting the sanctuary is part of a broader vision that connects food, sustainability, compassion and responsible choices.
A restaurant inspired by community
Sicilian culture has always been strongly connected to sharing food around the table.
At Sicilian NQ, we try to recreate that atmosphere through dinners, cocktail experiences, group events and community-focused hospitality in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.
For us, sustainability is not about perfection.
It is about creating spaces where people can enjoy food, culture and experiences while moving toward more responsible and conscious choices.
Looking ahead
As conversations around sustainability, ethical dining and environmental impact continue to grow, we believe restaurants can play a positive role in encouraging awareness and change.
Through our food, experiences and support for projects like Santuario Sotto la Panca, we hope to contribute — even in a small way — to a more compassionate and sustainable future.
